Layered Income Is Smart

Roughly 7 years ago I walked in to a Mastermind in Scotland...

I was wearing a black jumper dress, my favourite pair of red stilletos and a fake smile.

On the outside? I looked polished, successful, “great”.

But on the inside? My business had just dropped £20k per month, literally overnight.

At the time, my entire business relied on one single offer to do all the heavy lifting and due to a change in UK legislation, that offer was no longer compliant.

To say that I had no idea how i'd survive that unravelling, would be the understatement of the century.

But as I looked around the room that day I noticed something...

The people who werent spiraling?

They weren’t relying on just one offer. They had revenue coming in from different sources, delivered in different ways.

They were calm because they were diversified.

That moment changed everything for me and I realised I hadn’t built a business, I’d built a house of cards.

And when one card got pulled? The whole thing came crashing down.

I made a promise to myself that day:

If I somehow stabalised this shit show, I would never build a business that fragile again.

Now, every business I build is designed with multiple income streams from day one.

Not to chase shiny objects or to impress people on the internet.

But to create stability, freedom and actual peace of mind.

Let’s break them down...

Income Type 1: Linear Income

Linear income gave me momentum. It taught me how to sell, how to deliver and how to refine my process.

Most businesses start here because it is the most straightforward path to making money. You show up, deliver the thing and get paid a premium for doing so.

But it’s also fragile. The moment you need a break, get sick or life throws something unexpected at you… the income disappears with it.

Today, linear income still exists in my businesses, but it’s layered in intentionally. It’s not the foundation anymore.

Income Type 2: Leveraged Income

Leveraged income is what changed the game for me. Instead of delivering everything live or 1:1, I started turning my expertise into assets. Digital courses, evergreen workshops, paid templates. Things I could sell again and again without having to show up every time.

It’s NOT passive, you still need to market and maintain it. But it’s scalable as it isn't limited by time or availability...

And for someone who doesn’t want to work 40 hours a week, it’s a lifeline.

Income Type 3: Recurring Income.

Recurring income is what brought me peace. The first time I had money land in my account on the first of the month, every month, without sending an invoice or running a launch, I felt my whole nervous system relax.

It started with payment plans. Then retainers. Then full-blown memberships.

Recurring income gives you predictable income and changes how you make decisions because you’re not starting at zero every month. You’re building from a baseline.

Income Type 4: Passive Income.

Passive income is the one that gets talked about the most and misunderstood the most.

People want to start here, but the truth is, it usually comes after you’ve built other layers as this isn't about selling another product... it’s about letting your money or built credibility do the work.

For me, that’s looked like affiliate marketing and smart investments. This kind of income is not immediate, It’s not magic, but once it’s in place, it builds wealth, not just income.

The Bottom Line...

Some income gives you control, Some gives you scale, Some gives you peace and some builds your future...

Now i’m not saying you should try to build all four income streams today, But what you should do is ask:

Where does your money come from right now?

What happens if that stops working?

And what’s actually enough?

and, remember this:

One stream of income isn’t a strategy.

It's one bad day away from going broke.
